Cofundador do Telexfree é preso nos EUA

Um dos principais fundadores da Telexfree, o americano James Merrill, foi preso nesta sexta-feira (9) no estado de Massachusetts, nos EUA. A Justiça estadunidense ainda expediu mandado de prisão no nome de outro fundador, o brasileiro Carlos Wanzeler. Ambos podem cumprir até 20 anos de prisão caso sejam condenados. A empresa, que vende planos de minutos de telefonia pela internet (VoIP), é investigada também no Brasil por suspeita de praticar pirâmide financeira. Desde junho de 2013, a empresa está proibida de atuar no país. O americano Merrill foi levado ao Tribunal Distrital, em Worcester, onde recebeu a sentença. Para a promotora Carmen Ortiz, "o potencial de alcance do caso Telexfree deve servir de lição para todos". "O ponto principal está claro: se parece bom demais para ser verdade, provavelmente não é [verdade]", diz o agente especial Bruce Foucart.
